School Visits

Our educational workshops have won the Sandford Award for contributions to Heritage Education and Learning for multiple years. Led by experienced facilitators, we create unforgettable learning experiences for young people, through immersive and interactive workshop days. All our workshops deliver against key curriculum points, and as well as creativity, incorporate elements of STEM provision.

Tudor Kings and Queens

Learn about the lives of Henry VIII and Elizabeth I and how their reigns impacted on people’s lives. Pupils will learn about the roles of the monarchy in Tudor England, the Tudor court, and some of the key historic moments of the period.

The session includes:

Using images and text to explore Tudor royalty
Roleplay and playing out scenarios
Handling replica objects and learning about Elizabethan foods
Differences between the rich and the poor in Tudor times

The Gunpowder Plot

Discover the story of the Gunpowder Plot, and rumours linking a former Eastbury tenant with the Gunpowder Plotters, and find out about the religious divide in England.

The session includes:

Learn and act out the story of the Plot
Play the Protestants vs Catholics giant board game
Make a spy's lantern and practice quill writing
Learn about the rumours of links with Eastbury

A Victorian Christmas

Learn the traditions of Christmas that originated in the Victorian era. This interactive session is a fun and informative look at some of the traditions we still have today, and some that have changed.

The session includes:

Decorating the tree. Object handling, and the origins of some traditional decorations as they decorate.
Making a Christmas pudding, hands on activity and exploring the origins.
Exploring the house and art activity.

Down with the Abbey

Before the Dissolution in 1536, Barking had one of the largest and wealthiest Abbeys in Britain, influencing life both locally and nationally. You'll learn about Henry VIII's Dissolution of the Monasteries, and how life changed as a result.

The session includes:

Archaeological dig boxes and exploring the layout of Barking Abbey
Role play activities
Making a 3D interpretation of the landscape around Eastbury

Our Home, Your Home

An exploration of Tudor home life, and how this has changed through history. The workshop helps children to improve critical thinking, comparison skills, and to learn about world culture and community. It also has a focus on different points through history starting with the Tudors.

The session includes:

Discovering Tudor family life and comparing to modern times
Exploring the Tudor home and gardens
Handling objects and roleplay
Using costume and learning about Tudor clothing
Exploring Tudor toys and pastimes

£8.50 per child (Other Schools)
